Money raised for charities : £94,000

Venue :

ROYAL ALBERT HALL

On Saturday 18th October 2008 Cheddar Male Choir is pleased to be one of 17 Choirs participating in the 2008 Festival of Male Choirs.  This is the 21st Festival of its kind and further details will appear here later.

The choir's first concert was at the hilltop village of Dundry on 7th July 1995. Since that time we have sung in numerous towns and villages in Somerset, Gloucester and Wiltshire helping to raise money for many charities. We have also ventured further afield to Wales and Cornwall meeting and making new friends in other choirs as we go.

In addition there have been overseas excursions. The choir was invited to augment tours to Canada (with Dursley Male Voice Choir) and the Netherlands (with Chepstow Male Choir as part of the Arnhem commemorations.) In 1998 a large contingent travelled to Jamaica where several performances were given, notably to the High Commissioner in the University of The West Indies in Kingston.

In October 2004 we visited Norway where we joined with two Norwegian Choirs, Kongsberg Blandede Kor and Hokksund Mannskor, for joint Concerts. We met them again in Cheddar in 2006 for a return trip.  We are looking to continue our new friendships by joining again with them in the near future.

Over the years the Choir has performed on several occasions in The Colston Hall in Bristol. These concerts have been for Rotary, The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Appeal and a massed Male Voice Choir’s charity concert with the band of HM Royal Marines (Plymouth.)

A live broadcast on BBC Radio Somerset Sound was given as part of the 2004 BBC Children in Need day.

The Choir was invited to sing at The Rotary District 1200 celebration of 100 years of Rotary at Wells Cathedral. We also sang there with the RAFA band.
